Here for sale we have a Epiphone By Gibson S-500 in Black Sparkle finish. Built in Korea between c.1986-1988, this instrument features a bolt-on construction comprising an Alder body and Maple neck with a 21 fret Rosewood fingerboard. The guitar is equipped with a chrome 6-Saddle Tremolo and sealed tuning machines. The pickups featured consist of a humbucker and two single-coils, these are wired to a 5-way blade selector, master volume and two tone controls.

The Maple neck sits comfortably in the hand, with a profile resembling a ‘C’, allowing for easy fretting in any register and providing ergonomic thumb positioning up and down the neck. The Rosewood fingerboard is pleasant to the touch, and with its 12” radius makes bending and vibrato techniques a breeze, whilst offering a nice balance between comfortable chord playing and practicality for quick lead lines. The Medium Jumbo frets enhance vibrato techniques at speed whilst also providing a rock-solid and smooth playing experience while still giving that conventional Fender feel.

The pickups in this guitar offer a great versatile sound, they produce a mixture of sparkly tones with a hint of a darker undertones, whilst retaining clarity with each note. The humbucker in the bridge offers a full driving mid range with great harmonic overtones, and a top end that produces a crunchy edge. The middle pickup produces a smooth single coil sound with more output and more mids, providing bright trebles and full warm bass, and lends itself well to rhythm tones. The neck pickup provides a warm, rounded sound, offering a smooth tone that handles distorted tones as well as it handles clean tones, a versatile guitar for tone scaping.

Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall very good condition, a very small chip to the finish is visible to the very top point of the front face. Light scratching is apparent in places to the front face, visible under direct lighting at certain angles. The sides and rear face demonstrate very light markings, difficult to distinguish against the natural finish. 

Neck: Overall very good condition, light indentation is visible to the rear of the neck in places. This is not felt under the thumb in playing position and does not affect the overall playability of the instrument. Any markings to the fingerboard are difficult to distinguish against the natural finish.

Body: Overall good condition, chipping of the finish is apparent in places. This is most notable to the bass side horn on the front face, the bass side of the neck heel & the bottom edge. These chips reveal the wood beneath. The bottom edge demonstrates some paint transfer. All aspects of the body demonstrate light yet consistent scratching, causing hazing of the finish in places where regular contact is made.

Condition of Frets:

The frets show moderate signs of use, not affecting playability. Flattening of the frets is noticeable through the entire register. There is moderate material remaining for any light fret work the new owner may wish to

perform.
