Very Good condition, 7/10, Made in USA, including brown original hardcase with purple lining and with croc ends and handle (one broken latch), some finish flaking around the string attachment holes, replaced tuners with mismatched screws and extra holes drilled, original black bakelite knob, the pickup is the horseshoe style with a patent number 2089171

Rickenbacker Model 59 Lap Steel 1938 - 1943

The Rickenbacker Model 59 underwent a minor change in its second year of production, adding a second control knob which quickly moved from the opposite side of the volume control to the same side. The later Shaded Gray instruments are difficult to distinguish from the later "NS" model, but can be easily identified by confirming that the width of the pickup magnet is 1 1/2".
