About This Listing

Gifted directly from Bill Finnegan to Tiny Telephone SF for some mixing work we did for Klon Centuar website demos. The pedal is used but sonically perfect. This pedal was used everyday at TTSF by Sleater-Kinney, Spoon, Nada Surf, Death Cab For Cutie, Cherry Glazerr, Deerhoof, Tune-Yards and 100s more.

We never used anything but the 9V brand Bill told us to use and no 9V power supplies. My Tech upgraded the poor quality 9V connector.

This is one of the first 300, which afterward Bill made a couple changes:

"In 1995 I made three small changes: I added a resistor to give the circuit some protection against a static charge delivered to its input—a change that has no sonic effect. I also had the circuit board redesigned with a ground plane for better grounding—again, no sonic effect except the potential for a little less hum. And I added a resistor to give the circuit a very small amount of additional low-mid response—I wanted it to have a little more roundness when used with, say, a Strat into a Super Reverb. I made no other changes."

This is an extremely rare version of the rightfully famed Centaur. It has has TONS of music history. Low serial numbers rarely come up. The pedal is proudly nicked and scuffed, gear is supposed to be used and enjoyed!

Product Overview
The legend of the Klon Centaur, which debuted in the mid-'90s, has taken on a life of its own as one of the most collectable effects pedals of all time. Its ground-breaking transparent overdrive circuit, its use by such players as John Mayer, Nels Cline and Joe Perry (to name just a few) and its relative scarcity on the used market have propelled prices to unprecedented levels. Builder Bill Finnegan has made Klons with both gold and silver casings as well as with and without the Centaur logo (commonly referred to as Horsie or Non-Horsie models). The circuits on all these editions are all the same, but the "Horsie" models are a bit rarer so command slightly higher values.
