Vintage 1980s Fresher Refiend Series (FRS) SS-38 in Black.

Guitar has been customized/refurbished with a "blacked-out" aesthetic. Modifications include: - ESP "Pride" high-output black-covered humbucker pickup- New wiring harness, incl pots and jack- New Guyker tremolo bridge w/bent steel saddles in black- New vintage-style tuners in black- Black metal knobs- A makeshift cover for the control cavity (original was missing).

Includes push-in tremolo bar.

This is a quality instrument from the golden age of Japanese guitar manufacturing. I imported it from Japan as a husk. I saw the guitar had potential, and I'm glad I was able to save it. The lack of fret-wear makes me wonder why the guitar was ever stripped-down to begin with. It doesn't actually seem to have been played very much. Nevertheless, the refurbishment process was an opportunity to customize it, and I think it came out nicely.

The pickup is branded "Pride" and came from an ESP "Edwards" guitar. It was also imported from Japan in seemingly brand new condition. It's a high-output passive humbucker that really screams. If you make use of the volume and tone knobs on this guitar, you'll be surprised how much range you can coax out of it.

The guitar plays well. As I said, the frets show little wear (Images 10, 11, 12). The body has the type of cosmetic wear you would expect on a guitar of this age, but nothing I would really classify as damage. Please view all images in the set, as they do a good job of representing the overall cosmetic condition. I took some images with the flash and some without. Keep in mind some nicks that appear in the camera flash are much less visible in normal lighting.

The makeshift control cover was a necessity, as I don't have the means to craft a replacement. I cut a piece of cardboard to size, wrapped it in electrical tape, then sprayed both sizes with a thick layer of clear-coat to ensure rigidity.

Nut width: 1.64" is what my caliper said. I put 1.625" because Reverb didn't have that option.
