How rare is RARE !.......c1970’s made in Japan, ‘Yamano’ ordered YG.80 classical guitar, crafted by the master luthiers at Takamine, with spruce top, laminated back and sides, and white gloss finish.
Takamine guitars enjoy a loyal following among the professional pro-touring and discerning players as the best acoustic guitars available, and this niche classical YG80 is equally delightful.
Made in a small workshop in Japan in the 1970’s this completely hand made example has the classic honed combination of a spruce top with laminated back/sides.
There is a lovely crisp definition to each note and strum, balanced by a fullness and richness throughout the mids and lows, with clear trebles. This guitar has the typical, and much sort after sound of early Japanese made classical guitars as being able to cut through the mix during recording sessions and live performances.
The neck presents the traditional 2” wide rose wood fingerboard and a typical ‘D’ shaped neck profile, with a beautiful finish and fretwork

Clearly aimed at the dedicated and discerning player, this finely crafted, and Uber - Rare ‘Yamano’ badged instrument; new to the market in 50+ years, is in exceptional cosmetic condition and has been lovingly cherished and lightly played, with only a few very minor handling marks consummate with its age. The neck is clean and smooth with no marks. The back is in exceptional condition with only a few very light polishing swirls. The font table is clean, with a 3-pencil lined purfling detail that compliments the white gloss finish, and adds to its ‘head turning’ stage presence.
The original ‘Fustero’ styled – ‘Lyre’ type machine heads, with striking (eye catching) tuning caps and etched plate detail (presumably made by Gotoh) are smooth and complement the head design cosmetically superbly !
The fretboard has been cleaned and oiled, with a new set of 'Augustine Classic' Strings installed. String height is a respectable 3mm (B) and 2.7mm (T) (approx), with scope at the original, and untouched saddle to reduce significantly further.
The guitar is completed by its equally rare original fitted case, which is in fair condition for its age. It has done its job well. All of the catches open/close, with 2 additional latches added over the years to ensure the guitar’s security. The lock does not work.
