There’s not a lot of information to be found out there on vintage Saga acoustic guitars. Very little comes up via Google and they’re not listed in Gruhn’s Guide.
As near as I can tell this is a Martin D-28 copy made in Japan in 1977-78 and imported/distributed by Saga Musical Inst. in San Francisco. The Saga Dreadnought morphed into Blueridge guitars. This guitar is Model S-60 Serial #221221.
My history with it is I bought it recently at an auction. I reattached the pickguard, polished the frets, cleaned and polished the body, treated the neck with lemon oil and restrung it. It is a quality, great sounding guitar. I don’t play a lot of Dreadnought style music and I have a Taylor I’m happy with so I’m listing it here.
I wish I could tell you all the fancy woods it’s built from, but I really don’t know. The top is solid.
It has the usual dings and marks found on vintage acoustics, please see the photos. There is also a video attached. It will benefit from some minor work by a new owner. Maybe a new saddle, as this one is being shimmed to raise it for best action. One tuner has been replaced and one is missing its protective cover. There is slight buzzing on certain strings in certain areas of the neck so maybe a touch of fret work? All in all though decent shape for its age!
To protect it in shipping I’ll put it in the Martin case it came in. The case is only good for shipping though. It’s in poor shape with two hinges broken right off. Thank you!
