About This Listing

A rare 1955 Bassman 5D6-A, in superb condition. Serial #0187. I purchased this amp from a friend, a fellow harp player, in 1991. It had recently been brought back into perfect working order by Gerald Weber at Kendrick Amplifiers. It has three original blue-cone 10" Jensen speakers, with matching numbers from late February 1955 (eighth week of the year), and one Kendrick 10" speaker. Original transformers, original grill cloth. Retweeded by Weber. It has dual rectifier tubes. I have always only used one tube--that's standard operating procedure among the blues harmonica pros I know--but I've got the second rectifier tube (see photo) as well as the bell cover for the missing Jensen speaker and will include both of those with the purchase. I used the amp for a couple of years in the mid-90s when gigging with my blues duo, Satan & Adam (as seen in the Netflix documentary, Satan & Adam), but have used it only rarely since 1995, as I've moved towards smaller old tube amps like the Premier Twin-8. The amp is a spectacular get: it looks great, works perfectly, gets a massive sound with just the right amount of sag. I have taken exceptionally good care of it--which is to say, I've kept it covered in my closet for most of the past 25 years, taking it out now and then to blow through it for an hour. It deserves to be used, which is why I'm selling it.
