This 1973 Rickenbacker 4001 Bass is in excellent condition. This instrument shows only light signs of play wear including a quarter sized area of buckle wear on the back of the body, but it is otherwise extremely tidy and free of any cracks, breaks or repairs. This bass is completely original throughout and was purchased by our shop from the original owner's grandson. The original removable metal bridge pickup cover is missing but these covers were commonly removed for playability purposes and misplaced, thus becoming lost to the sands of time. This instrument looks as though it was exceptionally well cared for in its 50 years of existence and has an absolutely stunning figured birdseye maple body and a nice vibrant Fireglo finish. The neck is straight, the truss rod is functioning correctly and the frets are in excellent condition. This 4001 plays fantastic up and down the fingerboard with comfortable action and superb intonation. The electronics are clean and untouched with visible potentiometer codes dating to the 47th week of 1973. Both pickups are original and sound amazing. The output jack plate bears the code ML 6508 dating this instrument to December of 1973. This bass is on the lighter side coming in at 9lb and is very resonant and loud when played unplugged. This 1973 Rickenbacker 4001 bass is an extraordinary transitional example and I have yet to see one from this era that has this highly of a figured birdseye maple body, making it a truly unique and beautiful instrument. This Rick is housed in its original black rectangular hardshell case with blue plush lining and will ship out promptly and securely from our little shop here in Tennessee to your front door.
