About This Listing

Up for sale, a 1981 Tokai Breezysound model TE50 in exceptional, 100% original cognition and in perfect working order, complete with the original Tokai-branded gigbag. Crafted in Japan, this guitar is a faithful, high-quality take on the classic Fender Tele platform, visually evoking the Rosewood Telecaster with a six-saddle bridge, three-ply black pickguard, and a dark gloss Walnut finish on both the body and neck.

The tonewood complement comprises an ash body, maple neck, and rosewood fretboard, yielding a balanced, clear acoustic response. Via the single coil pickup pair, there's plenty of sparkle and snap on tap, with a bell-like clarity and percussive cut at the neck and chewy, throaty twang at the bridge. This TE50 weighs 8lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with generous shoulders and lightly rolled fretboard edges, measuring .845” deep at the 1st fret and .950” at the 12th. The rosewood fretboard has a vintage-spec 7 1/4“ radius, and the slender fretwire is nigh flawless, benefitting from a light level and crown. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The matching headstock has its practically perfect spaghetti script "Tokai" waterslide decal, and the single-line Kluson-style tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch.

On the body, the stock electronics work as they should, with untouched solder joints, full-size pots and cloth-covered pickup leads. The pickups are governed by a three-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone knobs. Chrome-plated hardware includes the dome-topped knobs, control plate, and “Tokai”-stamped six-saddle bridge.

The gloss Walnut finish is dark and rich, and cosmetic wear is limited to a few minor chips along the body perimeter and a handful of faint scratches in the clear coat on the back. The gloss finish on the neck profile is pristine.

The original Tokai-branded faux leather gigbag is included.
