About This Listing

Welcome to the Guitar Guru's Studio Liquidation Sale

Martin D-7 Roger McGuinn Special Edition Acoustic Guitar in excellent condition.

It comes with the original hardshell case, and Roger McGuinn’s signature on the interior numbered label.

This guitar has been played about ten times since purchasing it new directly from Martin when they were still making them.  They were discontinued quite some time ago.  It is in immaculate condition.  There is not a scratch on it, just the light picking swirl marks/scratches that are found in even the most meticulously cared for instruments.  It has been kept in its case when not being played, and properly hunidified.

These simply do not sell for less than $2,700 in any condition, and rarely sell for less than $3,000 in this condition.  This is a chance to own an incredibly unique guitar with Martin tone.

As Roger Mcguinn calls it, the Swiss army knife of guitars.

It has a nice deep amber gloss finish on a nicely grained solid Sitka spruce top, East Indian rosewood for the satin back and sides, and ebony fingerboard and bridge.

The fretboard has wood inlay diamond/snowflake position markers for frets 1-12.

Position 12 and 15 have ovals.  Roger's signature is inlayed on the bottom of the fretboard.

The guitar is set up with a real nice action and the modified "V" neck profile has a great feel.  The frets are in excellent condition.

The addition of the seventh string gives the guitar a 12-string-like quality.  The warm tone is well balanced and suited for strumming with the 12 string effect, while still allowing for fingerpicking and flatpicking like on a six string, and being able to solo and bend on the upper two strings.

This is an extremely well crafted instrument.  Martin truly delivers serious tone with special edition and limited run guitars.

Serial Number: #66

It produces a unique and extraordinary tone.

The Martin D-7 Roger McGuinn Special Edition Acoustic Guitar represents one of the most unusual instruments in the Special Edition history. Featuring a doubled G-string, (with the second string tuned an octave higher,) the D-7 guitar captures McGuinn's signature "jingle-jangle" 12-string sound, but also offers the versatility to handle single-string runs, leads and bends. The extra power that the double-G lends to the mid-range sound is startling to both the player and the listener, and playing the 7-string is intuitive without requiring any special fingering.

Both headstock and bridge on this unique dreadnought Special Edition are modified to handle the extra string.  Seven chrome Martin tuners installed asymmetrically on the solid, squared headstock -- three on the bass side and four on the treble side -- provide smooth, easy tuning. The belly bridge features a distinctive point under the seventh string, a "dropped" seventh string anchor and special 2.225" string spacing. A 1-3/4" neck width at the nut provides plenty of room for the extra string and playing comfort similar to a standard six-string guitar.

The Roger McGuinn Special Edition Guitar features classic Martin quality throughout.  The solid Sitka spruce top, solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, and forward-shifted scalloped top braces assure rich, powerful tone.

The D-7 Roger McGuinn Special Edition's top is tinted with vintage toner and protected by a polished tortoise-colored pickguard. Both the special nut and compensated saddle are fashioned from genuine bone.  The body showcases a beautiful polished gloss finish, while the neck, back and sides receive a satin finish for a more “opened-up” tone.
