About This Listing

Thanks for checking out this listing!

This Juno-6 has been modified with two musically useful changes:

First, the LFO now has a switch to go between the original LFO rate and a new audio rate. The audio rate LFO is great for FM-like sounds, adding a touch of growl or burble, or just plain weirdness.

Second, the arpeggiator has a similar switch going between the original rates and a low audio rate. This is great for some wild effects, clangorous tones, or just stupid fast arpeggios. One thing of note: When the arpeggiator is in its high-frequency mode then the gate noise becomes fairly audible. This can be somewhat mitigated by adjusting the envelope's attack.

The attached YouTube video demonstrates these effects and how they can be useful. In particular, I'm really pleased by the low brass sound that makes great use of this new LFO option.

The other change is a position for a third mod I intended to make but decided against. But hey, since that hole is there then maybe you'll find a use for it! Add an LED to indicate the LFO rate, add a switch for something, put a tiny flower in there.

But, because this is modified I'm selling it for less than the going prices for Juno-6s. Honestly, it's kind of a good deal because you're getting a Juno-6 that does more than a Juno-6 for less than a Juno-6. Parse that!

Rather than copy and paste someone else's description of the Juno-6, let me tell you a bit about why I prefer it over the 60 or the 106: It sounds better. That's it. Of the budget synths Roland made, the 6 is probably the best sounding. The filter is excellent and the bass can be outrageous.

Yes, you miss out on having memory, but there are so few controls to all three that it takes very little time to dial in a sound. It's what I call a "fast synth" where you can quickly get to the sound you want and they're usually pretty good. The underrated ARP Axxe is another one like that--you can get something good out of an Axxe faster than out of an Odyssey.

The Juno family has a reputation for pop and funk sounds, but there is a lot of depth to these despite the limited programming. Again, I point you to my YouTube video which has a breadth of sounds usually associated with far more expensive and precious instruments. Feel free to think the music stinks, but hopefully you'll hear some programming ideas.

Why am I selling it? Quite simply, my interests have shifted more toward some other instruments and I can stand to lose a few poly-synths.

Shipping: I can ship this anywhere in the US for the flat rate listed, but if you live within a reasonable drive I'm happy to bring this to you (or meet somewhere). If so, we can negotiate on the shipping cost.

Warranty: I'm selling this "as-described" simply because it's an old synth and I'm a private seller rather than a business.

Product Overview
The Roland Juno-6, the first in the quintessential ‘80s Juno family, is many things, but it is not a one-trick pony. Despite its simple design and single oscillator, this vintage polyphonic analog synth can pack a punch, giving you huge string chords, thin, warbling notes, and even sounds that will drop you right into a classic John Carpenter horror flick.
