About This Listing

Here for sale we have a Gordon Smith Graf Deluxe electric guitar in Austin Blue finish. Built in the UK in 1990, this guitar features a bolt-on construction comprising 5 piece Maple/Mahogany neck, 22 fret Rosewood fingerboard and brass nut.  The pickups installed are a single-coil in the neck position and a humbucker at the bridge. These are wired to a 3-way toggle switch, master volume and tone controls and a push/pull coil split.

The neck plays very well, feeling nicely 'played-in' for a very comfortable and familiar feel. The profile might be described as a rounded 'D', which feels fluid  and smooth in the hand without being overly thick. It's certainly a neck that most players will get along with. The cutaway provides uninhibited access to the upper register, whilst the smooth lines of the body feel great in the arms. Weighing in at 6.6lbs the Graf is certainly easy on the shoulders and provides a comfortable playing experience in both standing and seated positions.

The pickups offer a wide range of tonal options without losing character and keeping switching simple. The neck pickup feels reminiscent of 'T' style guitars, but with a slightly hotter voicing. The bridge humbucker is thick and powerful, with a driving midrange, great for pushing the front end of an amplifier. The pickups respond superbly well to the volume control, allowing you to easily dial in the right amount of amp saturation without  losing out on clarity. Overall a very well built electric guitar with a real workhorse feel.

Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall good condition, light indentation is visible to all edges of the headstock. This is more notable to the top edge, where it pierces and in some places chips the finish. There is light hanger burn to the sides of the headstock, close to the nut. Both front and rear faces demonstrate light scratching and indentation which is visible under direct lighting at certain angles and is lightly felt under the finger.

Neck: Overall good condition, a moderate indentation is visible to the middle register of the rear of the neck. This can be felt under the finger and chips the finish, exposing the wood beneath. A joint in the wood is visible towards the headstock. This is not a repair and is from the factory. A similar joint is present to the bass side of the neck at the 9th fret. These can be lightly felt under the finger when scrutinised but present no structural concern. The fingerboard demonstrates light markings, difficult to discern against the natural finish.

Body: Overall very good condition, light scratching is visible to all faces. This is only visible under direct lighting at certain angles and cannot be felt under the finger, which is common with high gloss finishes. The rear demonstrates light indentation, felt under the finger when closely scrutinised. This is only visible under direct lighting at certain angles.

Condition of Frets:

The frets demonstrate very light signs of use, not affecting playability. There is considerable material remaining for any future work the new owner may wish to perform.
