1993 Ibanez RG550 HSH Metallic Purple 100% Original w/ Lo-Pro Edge Floyd Rose

Up for sale, a 1993 Ibanez RG550 in 100% original condition and in perfect working order, finished in Purple Neon. This Ibanez was crafted at the Fujigen factory in Japan, featuring an HSH pickup complement and Lo-Pro Edge tremolo.

Tonewoods include a basswood body, maple neck and 24 fret rosewood fingerboard with jumbo fretwire, offering a sonically balanced platform for the pickups. The versatile HSH pickup complement yields a wide array of tones; the V1 humbucker in the neck position has a traditional PAF-style tonal palette, slightly overwound for beefier mids and punchy lows; the V2 humbucker at the bridge is powerful and bold, with smooth, singing trebles; the S1 single coil in the middle delivers sparkle and snap, working in tandem with the humbuckers on the five-way pickup selector switch. This RG550 weighs 7lbs 9oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, slinky action, and spot-on intonation.

The maple neck has Ibanez’s Wizard profile, a very slender D-shaped carve with generous shoulders and a fast feel, measuring .700” deep at the 1st fret and .810” at the 12th. On the 24-fret slab rosewood fretboard, the jumbo fretwire is practically perfect, and this Ibanez plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod. The Top-Lok III locking nut measures 1 11/16” in width, and on the headstock, the Gotoh SG38 tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The neck heel sports the Tilt contour for improved upper-fret access.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups governed by a five-way pickup selector switch and Master Volume and Tone controls. Plastics comprise the three-ply black pickguard and the original pair of knobs. The Floyd Rose-licensed Lo-Pro Edge tremolo actuates smoothly and snaps quickly back to pitch from deep dives and more subtle expressions.

The gloss Metallic Purple finish is bright and bold, and cosmetic wear includes a number of dings and finish scratches on the body as a whole, with some chipping through to the basswood along the edges of the lower bout. The neck profile retains its smooth satin finish.

The original Ibanez-branded faux leather gigbag is included.
