1970’s Japanese CMI jazz bass
This is a Chicago Musical Instruments bass and was made by a Japanese company for CMI back in the mid seventies, not to be confused with the Marshall owned cleartone musical instruments brand which had a different logo!
Really nice sunburst finish over a plywood body
The usual dents and dings, a few screw holes where the thumb rest originally was, the string tree on the headstock doesn’t look original and the holes were drilled straight through(guitarists eh)
This has been modified with 2 switches that give the bass two different eq settings - both these are essentially LPF’s and cut the highs!
This has recently been set up and is a really nice example of a vintage Japanese bass
The neck here is kind of worth the price admission alone, it’s maple, nice and chunky and not fatiguing to play in the slightest!
Perfect recording or touring bass, I’m no longer playing as much bass as I used to so moving this out, I used this along with a US made jazz bass when playing bass in a band and the sound really wasn’t much different between the two.
