Jacques-Pierre Thibout ~1820 - a very nice romantic guitar by one of the key Parisian luthiers of the early 19th century.

Jacques-Pierre Thibout was born in 1777 in Caen. He first worked at Caen, then, in 1796, under Koliker at Paris. He married in 1800 and in 1807 established himself at 24, rue Montmartre, after 1810 moving to 8, rue Rameau. He was a remarkable maker and his instruments are much liked. His violins and guitars soon came into notice, because Thibout's improvements and innovations gave his instruments an excellent quality of tone.
Thibout was awarded a silver medal in 1827 and another silver medal in 1844. He finally got the first class medal at the Paris Exhibition in 1855 for an excellent violoncello.
Jacques-Pierre Thibout died in 1856 at Saint-Mande near Paris.

The guitar sounds fantastic and can easily compete with the best instruments from Lacote.
It has a very charming sound perfect for getting closer to the authentic sound of the music of such composers as Sor, Giuliani, Aguado, Legnani, Diabelli, Carulli, Coste and Legnani, just to name a few!
It has a clear sound, rich harmonics, striking highs and lovely basses. It is quite impressive that such a sonorous and fine instrument was built already more than 200 years ago.
The guitar additionally has a very natural, “woody” quality of sound, very stylish, refined and alluring. The rich, played-in quality of sound is something that can only be found in an instrument of this vintage. In the hands, it feels very expressive and responsive to the most subtle of changes in the players touch. The sound is absolutely magical from the bottom-end to the highest registers.

The condition is very good for the age. It has been very professionally restored by Paul Janssen.

The guitar plays easily, with a straight neck and a pleasantly low action.
The nut width is 48 mm and the scale length 630 mm. It has a sruce top and male back and sides.
