1940s Gretsch A Mandolin Project made by Kay
Hello. Up for sale is a 1940s Gretsch mandolin project possibly made by Kay. I would guess that the year of production is during the War . A lot of the tuning keys at that time had the pressed gear instead of a screwed on gear.
This mandolin is in non functioning condition. It is a project and is sold as is . The pics pretty much tell the story but I will too. This mandolin is an A style with an arched top and back. It has F holes and a solid spruce top. The back and sides look like maple.
It has a dark 2 tone sunburst finish. The neck, fingerboard, tuners, neck heel neck joint and nut are pretty intact. The heel cover is mostly missing. The main issue with the mandolin is a long crack in the top. There is some overlap of the top in a few spots to the sides. It gives a fiddle edge kind of effect.
There is some kind of Flinstone looking bridge included. It looks like Brazilian rosewood but I don't think it would be on a 1940s instrument.
The headstock has a decal that reads "Gretsch NYC".
Sold as is no returns. Shipping is $30 in the US and $135 to many countries.
The tailpiece is intact.
