Erlewine Guitars "The Enforcer" Prototype Machine Gun Guitar circa 1983

*Observations: This is a very unusual guitar built by celebrated Austin, Texas luthier Mark Erlewine, famous for building guitars for such high-caliber (no pun intended) artists as Billy Gibbons, Mark Knopfler, Johnny Winter, Joe Walsh, Paul McCartney and many others. This mean machine was a prototype Mark built for a proposed import guitar. In Mark's words from a signed letter of provenance he wrote in 2011 (which will be included with the guitar):

"I hand made this guitar, "The Enforcer" really as a lark for International Music Corp. when they were leasing my patents for the 'Chiquita' and "Lazer" designs around 1983. I built the body out of alder and used an existing neck from one of their 'Hondo' bolt-on electrics. I altered the peghead and the whole prototype was sent to the Samick factory in Korea (all the I.M.C. designs were manufactured there). Samick produced a small number of the designs for I.M.C. mainy as a novelty gift for them to give to their distributors, etc."

The condition is overall very good. Frets have a few very tiny light dents but almost no playing wear. The matte black finish has become a little cloudy in a few spots and the hardware has some tarnish, as do the pickup polepieces. There are some small gouges and some rough areas around the pickup rings.

The back of the guitar has what look like several medium sized finish gouges that seem to have been roughly painted over, as well as a few much smaller unpainted finish chips. There are some very small chips in the black chrome finish on the the "trigger" surrounding the pickup selector switch, and there are buckle scratces on the trem cavity plate. The gig bag included here was not made for a guitar of this length so the headstock pokes out one end and the zipper does not close. A cool black leather Levy's bullet-loaded "bandolier" strap is also included. Mark Erlewine himself has signed the back of the guitar.

Despite its cosmetic issues, everything is functional. This is a wild one, a relic of a fun, crazy era of guitar history.
