Fully refurbished and super-modified, all-analog Soundcraft
Ghost mixing console (process by Nashville's own Creation Audio Labs, performed by myself, a former employee- this mod
featured in Pro Audio Review)
$5500 for the console w/ matching 32ch meterbridge, and the modified CPS-275 power supply. You cover the shipping and insurance (additional $100). Comes with the original manuals for both the board and the power supply. As the board itself is worth over a $1500, the meter bridge and power supply approx. $500 each, and the modification process alone a $6000 (see Creation Audio Labs' website for their pricing), you're basically getting an $8500 board for $3000 less.
ABOUT THE BOARD
This console features an inline design. 32 channel, 8 aux busses, 8
group (4 stereo), w/ mute automation (for both Mix A and B pathways), remote
transport control for tape machine or DAW control, MIDI interfacing, onboard
computer and corresponding digital readout. Each individual channel equipped
with inline switching between mic/line input and tape in, direct out, insert,
48 V phantom, four band EQ with two fully parametric midranges, low-cut, mix B
pathway and mix controls, eight aux sends, etc. The master section includes the
aux bus levels, studio oscillator (1kHz/10kHz) for tests, FX inputs, controls
for monitoring options on all mix pathways and CRM output, and built in
talkback mic, etc...
ABOUT THE MOD
The modification designed by Creation Audio Labs (performed by myself, a former employee) features new, faster
slew-rate IC chips (Burr Brown, Analog Devices and National Semiconductor ICs),
and higher quality, ultra-low ESR (Electronic Series Resistance) capacitors,
and a rebuilt, overhauled PSU, making this classic budget board a serious contender.
All metal work, knobs and PCB modules are cleaned with the high-grade contact
cleaner / solutions / high pressure air. All mechanical components (switches,
pots, etc.), ribbon connectors, and XLR/1/4" in/out jacks resoldered to improve connection and conductivity, as
well as cleaned/lubricated. All Inserts (channels & master section) and the
headphone jack replaced with gold-plated Neutrik jacks for improved connectivity
without intermittent signal loss.
As it compares to the I modded counterpart, there have been dramatic improvements with mic pre’s, EQ section, the
outputs, Mix-B path, direct output drivers, and aux sections all gaining
responsiveness and clarity as compared to the already great original function.
The noise floor of the desk dropped significantly. The Left/Right stereo field
widens out greatly too, due the improvement in crosstalk. Upgrading the
capacitors improved low end clarity as well as tightening up the low-mid
frequency response by increasing the values of these caps and replacing the
stock capacitors with ones that have a much lower ESR. This supermod takes a
budget-studio board and brings it up to Neve quality at a fraction of the cost.
This board w/ mods has even been tested against SSL with the this modded board
winning out for superior analog summing.
And as if that wasn't enough, further modifications
performed on each input channel and master section strip to suppress
high-frequency oscillations/noise, which are inaudible otherwise but
normally would've eaten up headroom. Power supply upgraded with a beefier transformer to optimize it to the upgraded board providing for more headroom,
and it's been calibrated for the best performance.
The mod/refurb process alone normally costs around $6K through Creation Audio
Labs, which is run by former Soundcraft employees, including Soundcraft's former
national service manager Alex Welti.

Reader, please note the minor cosmetic wear to the board from continued use, indicated in the pictures above. This, of course is purely cosmetic only, and it no way affects board function or use. Every single electronic and mechanical part has been refurbished (cleaned/lubricated/re soldered if necessary) and gone over with a fine-toothed comb during the multiple QC tests I performed along the way. The current price IS reflective only of the wear and not of function and thus there will be no further adjusting to the price.
