About This Listing

Rock Oval "Hybrid" late 1960's assembly.

I have labelled this guitar as a Rock Oval Hybrid as its an unusual Wandre guitar which I believe was assembled in the late 1960's from a prototype fibre glass Rock Oval body that Wandre were known to be experimenting with as a new technique for body manufacture. I have only seen two others manufactured from a fibre glass body , photos are shown in my listing. One is also for sale on reverb and shows the same neck and body construction with a more elaborate Davoli mid 60's pickup configuration, but the same switch mounting and controls

The remainder of the parts I think are from the Cobra era and a Bikini neck fretboard. The neck construction is typical of mid 60's construction where Wandre had moved to a technique of gluing the fretboard to the aluminium neck. The NOS fretboard is glued and screwed on this guitar to the early 60's specification.

Top Is a smoke finish with some dents. The body has a cast in Wandre logo on the reverse which is raised up. The body is also thicker than a earlier Rock Ovals which is why the jack plug is able to be mounted on the side. the hollow body gives the guitar a beautiful resonance.

I found another late 1950's image of a rock oval guitar which shows the same volume and tone knob position and side entry jack plug and also a later advertised Rock Oval which also shows the fibre glass body and raised Wandre logo. The same tuning pegs are also used on this guitar

So what does the guitar have and its history since I had it
