Fender Custom Shop 2007 John Cruz masterbuilt 50’s Telecaster Relic, MVP (Master Vintage Player’s) Series from Make ’n Music in Chicago. This was one of John Cruz’s early masterbuilt guitars (JC 696), but made after he had done the SRV #1 Strat as well as the Muddy Waters Telecaster. Cruz was one of Fender’s best master luthiers ever, and his masterbuilt guitars are understandably the most coveted. This one was purchased from Make ‘n Music owner Teddy Gordon who thought up the MVP series. Theses are masterbuilt guitars with the features that players appreciate (modern wiring, Med-Jumbo frets, and especially, truss rod adjustment at the headstock (no more unscrewing the neck to adjust the truss rod). This one came straight from John Cruz to Make ’n Music where it didn’t stay long before I bought it. It has the “baseball bat” U-shaped neck from quarter-sawn maple. Cruz special hand-wound pick-ups sound amazing. This guitar is completely unmodified from the day it was built and has remained in my smoke-free home, in a climate-controlled Acoustic Remedy case. The only reason I’m thinking of selling it is because I have small hands and so I only play my Cruz masterbuilt 60’s Stratocaster with the C-shaped neck.
