About This Listing

Jaime Ribot ~1900 incredibly nice guitar in the style of Barcelonas high end guitars of Enrique Garcia, Francisco Simplicio ...

Jaime Ribot was born in Valencia and was a luthier who worked in Barcelona at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century. For many years he shared a workshop with Bautista Alcañiz on the calle Ancha until 1920. In addition to classical and flamenco guitars, he also made bandurrias. Contemporary with the construction of Torres guitars in Andalucia, this guitar represents a great example of the early Catalan school (which would eventually include makers like Garcia, Simplicio, Coll and Fleta). Miguel Llobet was known to be a fan of this maker and played on one of his instruments regularly. Emilio Pujol and Domingo Prat also played on Ribot guitars.

This guitar is in good condition and has been restored very professionally. The French polish has been renewed after the restoration process. The wooden tuning pegs work great.
The guitar has a nice spruce top and rosewood back and sides. The scale length is 655 mm and the nut width 51 mm.

The guitar is extremely easy to play, with a lovely old-world poetic sound. The sound is incredibly impressive – the guitar has an indescribable depth in every note across the entire register with a great bass and lyrical highs. It is very lively and “friendly” with great charm and personality.
The ease of playability allows the guitarist to let his creativity run free, as one gets the impression that the notes literally jump out of the guitar.
The timbre is round and warm with amazing sustain and perfect balance.

Overall an extremely charming instrument - these rarely appear on the market, so this is a really special treat for us to have such an excellent example.
