About This Listing

This is an auction for one Great Sounding Neumann U77 vintage microphone Serial Number 5929 fitted with VERY CLEAN GREAT SOUNDING KK67 capsule, Max Kircher MK67 NEW tube insert with power supply and cables.

The microphone was manufactured in 1971.

The capsule - KK67 serial number A808 – is totally original – not reskinned.

Please note that the two plastic pins of the HPF and -10dB switches are broken. The switches work just fine. The capsule sounds great – if you scream at the microphone closer than 4” the sound cuts off occasionally because of the moisture of the human breath. If you use a pop filter (included – not in the pictures) the microphone works just fine.

Neumann U77 condenser microphones were powered with T power (12Volt) – the phantom power (48V) was not a studio standard yet in 1976.

The microphone was converted for Phantom power (48 volts) using several very high quality passive components (Panasonic and WIMA capacitors, 0.1% metal film resistors).

Neumann U 77 was a solid state successor to Neumanns classic tube microphone U 67.

But instead of phantom power – which was not yet a studio standard at the time – it was powered with T Power (12 volt).

The U77 uses fifteen times the current of the U87 and has a much hotter output and is fuller sounding with a beautiful extended high.

The U77 does not have a transformer – it is very different from U87.

Max Kircher is manufacturing the best tube copy of U67.

One brand new MK67 insert with power supply and cables is included in this auction. The insert is fitted with ADZAM PF86 tube. Two new original vintage EF 86 tubes manufactured by Tesla and Tungsram are included.

That’s as close as it gets to the legendary original Neumann U67 microphone.

Here is a list of what is included in the auction:

1 – Neumann U77 SN5929 microphone fitted with KK67 capsule;

1 – Max Kircher MK67 tube insert;

1 – Power supply for MK67;

1 – Cable for U77;

1 – Cable for MK67;

1 – AC cable;

1 – Tesla EF86 vintage tube NEW;

1 – Tungsram EF86 vintage tube NEW;

Also please forget the very expensive Neumann shock mount and buy a clever Rycote InVision USM, this indestructible, innovative design provides additional 12 dB of isolation compared to conventional elastic suspensions.
