I inherited this trunk containing a complete Shamisen build kit. It came to the US at the end of WWII in the care of a returning vet.
It is a vintage high-quality (possibly museum quality) instrument, in parts, with hand-made tools to rebuild it. The kit includes all instrument parts made of no longer readily available materials (ebony, ivory, Ironwood, animal skins, etc.), 20 skins for the body resonator, strings, plectrum, reskinning tools, etc.
I have kept it for 30 years hoping to find the time to rebuild the instrument but have come to realize that that time has passed, and I should pass it on to another caring musician/craftsman who would appreciate this one-of-a-kind musical treasure chest.
