National built both the N720 which was the Dreadnought, like this one, and the N710 which was a more concert sized guitar. This is the big boy Dreadnought. Full 16 inch wide lower bout to give you massive sound from the Old Growth Spruce Top. No serial number on this one but you can see the residue of the metal sticker on the back of the headstock that identifies it as a 1968 or 1969... It could be either.
This guitar is super RARE... I have seen many Guitars just like this one with the National, Supro and even the Airline Logos on them, but this is only the second for me. Everything on this guitar is awesome and original including the fancy pickguard with no cracks, the truss rod cover, and the very cool Kluson Deluxe Double line Butterfly button Tuners!!
The guitar has a 25 1/2 inch scale neck with a nut that measures 1 11/16 inches. The neck has a nice medium round C profile that feels great in the hand! A few dings and scratches here and there, but over all a very well kept vintage National Guitar!
I had Jeff the Tech go over this guitar and set it up with very good playing low action with a working truss rod. No sore fingers with this one. The frets are in nice shape and the bridge shows no indication of pulling up. The Solid Spruce top is still nice and flat. The back and sides are Mahogany and its even X-braced. A very high quality guitar for back in the 1960's that wasn't a Gibson or Martin.
The sound of this guitar is fantastic. A very even voice that is quite loud and sounds more like my vintage Gibsons then Martins. Not too bassy and not thin at all. I love it.
The top show some finish crazing that speaks to its original thin Nitrocellouse Finish. The Mahogany back and sides are just beautifiul. Dings and scratches as expected on any 1960's guitar, but all superficial items. See pics of this beautiful guitar!
The case is in great shape as well. Nice beautiful Black Plush interior and all the hinges and original handle are present and working properly. A very nice older Hard Shell Case.
