Who is Custom77®
Custom77® is a French guitar brand created in 2007 and run by JB Debiais.
The first original models were released in 2008 and their originality gave the brand numerous international recognitions such as the DAC Designer of the World (in the musical instruments category) in 2015, 2016 and 2017 as well as numerous design awards in the rest of the world: Chicago, Milan, London, New York, Sydney, Melbourne. . .
The brand exhibited at the NAMM Show (USA) in 2014 and 2015 and is expanding into the American market.
Many international artists support the brand, by playing Custom77® guitars, such as Gorillaz, Metronomy, M83, Lee Ranaldo (Sonic Youth), Portishead, My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, John Fryer (Depeche Mode), Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Editors, Didier Wampas and many others.
"My collection"
Each of the guitars from "My Collection" are one-of-a-kind pieces for which I have given myself no time or budget limits.
Whether it's the pickups, the hardware or the electronics, each element has been chosen to create an instrument that is out of the ordinary and comparable to no other.
Red Mirror
The idea behind this model was to take the characteristic sound from the 50s Telecaster® which is very meaty, unlike today's versions. But I also wanted to add a vibrato and change the neck pickup for something more versatile.
To keep the twang that comes partly from the bridge, I modified the vribrato to add brass type saddles. After various tests, I changed the E/A saddle for aluminum which offers better projection.
The choice of the neck pickup fell on a Charlie Christian from Lollar®, offering a very delicate jazzy approach but which above all, mixes extremely well with the "Special T" pickup in the bridge. Thus offering a middle position which retains the attack of the bridge and adds the chest of the neck.
Finally, extensive testing of potentiometer and capacitor values found what offered the most clarity and tonal control.

Chacune des guitares de "Ma collection" est une pièce unique pour laquelle je ne me suis donné aucune limite de temps ou de budget.
Que ce soit les micros, l'accastillage ou l'éléctronique, chaque élément a été choisi pour créer un instrument hors du commun et comparable à aucun autre.

L'idée derrière ce modèle était de partir du son caractéristique d'une Telecaster® des années 50 avec un son très charnu, contrairement aux versions d'aujourd'hui. Mais je voulais également rajouter un vibrato et changer le micro manche pour quelque chose de plus versatile.
Pour garder le twang qui vient en partie du chevalet, j'ai modifié le vribrato pour lui ajouter des pontets type laiton. Après divers tests, j'ai changé le pontet du Mi/La pour de l'aluminium qui offre une meilleure projection.
Le choix du micro manche s'est porté sur un Charlie Christian de chez Lollar® offrant un son très doux dans l'approche jazzy mais qui surtout se marie extrêmement bien avec le micro "Special T" en chevalet. Offrant ainsi une position middle qui conserve l'attaque du chevalet et ajout le coffre du manche.
Enfin, de nombreux tests de valeurs de potentiomètres et de condensateurs ont permis de trouver ce qui offrait le plus de clarté et un meilleur contrôle du tone.
