About This Listing

I offer here an original 1972 Guild Starfire IV SB, a vintage semi-acoustic guitar model handmade in Westerly, Rhodes Island (USA) with slim double cutaway mahogany body and solid sustain block, arched maple top with two F-holes, set three-piece mahogany neck with medium "C" neck profile, bound rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays, two hot Guild USA humbucker pickups, tuning-stable Grover open-gear diecast tuners, high quality Guild AdjustoMatic bridge with floating harp tailpiece and beautiful sunburst high gloss finish with gleaming chrome/nickel hardware in an excellent collector condition including black hardshell case, GuitarPoint certificate of authenticity and professional setup with Ernie Ball 10 gauge strings.

The rise of the Guild company is directly related to the demise of another great US guitar maker. In 1952, after the death of founder Epi Stathopoulo, the Epiphone workshop was to be moved to Philadelphia. However, quite a few old Epiphone employees preferred to stay in New York and accepted the offer of guitarist Alfred Dronge to work in his newly founded company Guild. Dronge got not only experienced craftsmen this way, but also the know-how Epiphone had acquired over decades of building first-class jazz guitars. It's no wonder, then, that guitars from Guild bear great similarities to successful Epiphone models from before 1952.

This Starfire IV semi-acoustic guitar was introduced in the 1960s and visibly takes its cues from the Gibson ES-335 design, but comes with its own unique vibe with a slightly smaller body, harp-shaped floating tailpiece, and open Grover tuners. The maple top already resonates acoustically beautifully through the two f-holes, and a glued mahogany neck offers a smooth playing feel with the medium-width "C"-shaped neck profile.

At the amp, two hot-warm sounding Guild USA humbuckers are at work, eliciting versatile sound options: from dynamic indie rhythm harmonies to singing rock lead sounds, it covers it all superbly.

A sound sample of exactly this guitar (!) can be found at the end of the photo gallery above.

If you're looking for a true USA vintage semi-acoustic guitar with its own character, and you don't want to save it from your mouth, you've come to the right place!
