About This Listing

Here is a beautiful early 70's Elk Custom Model 560. This was the top of the line model for the Elk company, which produced professional grade guitars and amps. These were only made for 1-2 years and are extremely rare! This one is in amazingly good condition. There are a couple of small dings. It is missing the tremolo arm, which can easily be replaced. It does have the tremolo spring. It has a three piece neck that is completely true. String height at high E, 12th fret is about 1.5 mm and the low E string is the same. It has the lovely zero-fret like a Mosrite. Beautiful 5-dot inlays. 5-ply bound body and and single-ply neck binding. Minor fret wear on the first three frets. See photos. The pickups are from Schaller, and have a clear warm tone. It weighs 3.3 Kg/7.25 lbs so easy on the shoulders. The tuners are sealed and very smooth. Very light surface oxidation on the bridge, tremolo mechanism and pickups. All the hardware is original except the pickguard, which has been replaced.. Overall this is a real beauty that plays as well as it looks! Finding one of these in such good condition is like winning the lottery!

It comes with the case shown. It is a Yamaha case from the 1970's.

This is from the Tokai Forum:

"Made in the early 1970s, this guitar was the top original guitar in the ELK lineup. What is unique is its structure.
The body is semi-hollow. The back is hollowed out of oak wood, both sides are hollowed, and the central part is solid. The neck joint is also quite unique. It extends into the pickup cavity and scrapes off the upper side to make room for the pickup. The pickups are single pickups made by Schaller from the time when it was still West Germany, with 12 small bobbins that can be adjusted individually. It is also known as the first guitar in Japan equipped with foreign-made pickups. Sound-wise, it looks like a mix of Strat pickups and P-90s, the overtones are tremendous, and both low and high sound brilliant. The neck inlay has five mother-of-pearl inlays in one position, and a total of 50 mother-of-pearl inlays are embedded in 10 positions. In addition, it is luxuriously built with lines on both sides of the fingerboard. Look at the headstock. It is not warped back, but is arched from the beginning with a shaving. It seems that the purpose is to secure tension. It is close in size to Melody Maker. The parts are also highly original, and overall, they boast a great degree of perfection."
