(NEW) Northfield has been a Godsend for us these last couple years, getting us premium instruments, in sufficient quantities, and at prices that our customers can't quite believe. It isn't easy becoming Top Dog in a shop like ours, but Northfield is making a serious play for the crown.
Just arrived, this A5 Special combines a dizzying number of awesome tonal and visual options, and still comes in under $4K! It starts with a premium Italian Alpine spruce top, known for its stiffness, complexity and musicality. The back and sides are figured maple, of course. This mando has Northfield's hybrid varnish finish, shiny and thin, and the instrument is able to breathe and respond like mandolins of old.
Cosmetically, it's a pretty classic looking A model. It has a dark cherry burst finish and is full bound in ivoroid, including pick guard. The nut is 1 1/8" and the ebony fingerboard has a compound radius. Nugget tailpiece, Gotoh tuners and Airloom "Recurve" case complete the package.
