This semi acoustic, single pickup bass guitar features a single florentine (pointed) cutaway and a number of onboard battery operated special effects. The 1968 US Vox catalog described the Apollo IV Bass as follows:
"A exciting all new 4-string Florentine cutaway electric acoustic bass. Has built-in G tuner, distortion booster, treble and bass booster. All new easy-to-fret fast-neck featuring Vox double T-bar and adjustable steel rod. Exclusive VOX Ferro-Sonic pickup. Fully adjustable bridge. One volume and one tone control. Chrome plated machine heads. “
The offered Apollo IV bass has a cherry finish and is - for its age (about 55 years) - in excellent condition with very little sign of use. There is only some flash rust on metal parts, which can be largely polished away. The pad on the back of the body also served its purpose: It is a bit worn, but has thus saved the paint from nicks and scratches. Otherwise the bass is in original condition and I am not sure if it really came with a bridge cover. This part is missing on my bass but also VOX catalog photos show the instrument once with and once without this cover. Surprisingly, all onboard effects work, whether you have use for them or not. The Apollo IV plays very well with low action, great tone and an extremely fast and thin neck. It will be shipped in a non-original hardshell case.
I am also selling the guitar twin to the Apollo IV bass: a rare Apollo VI guitar, also in Cherry red. It would be my concern not to separate the siblings after so many years together. Therefore, when you buy this nice pair, there is a discount of -15% on the total price.
