Light and small, the Roland A-49 is a velocity-sensitive, 49-key MIDI controller with a simple design for beginners or pros. It's powered by the USB connection to your MAC or PC, so no there's no need for a separate power supply. You can also hook it up to an iPad with Apple's Camera Connections kit. In addition to the two switches and two knobs, you also have Roland's new D-BEAM controller, an invisible beam that allows you to control with a wave of your hand.
"When you're recording, the last thing you need is to find you're uncomfortable with the instrument you're playing, especially if it's a MIDI controller that operates so many parameters of your performance and production. Having a keyboard with enough keys, the right controls, a good feel under your hands and action that helps translate your playing style without cramping your personal style. Square, sharp-edged keys can be a problem for me when I play, since my fingers aren't small, my key strikes aren't always perfect and I do alot of glissando sweeps in my piano and organ spots. A feature like the rounded-edged, more stable, quiet keys on the A-49 is a simple, yet welcome innovation that reminds me, after many years of being a Roland user, that this company still thinks about the real world when they design their stuff."
