Gibson / 70s Florentine 5st-Banjo

The banjo is used in a wide range of genres, not only in country and bluegrass music, but also in pop and crossover music these days. Artists such as Taylor Swift also use it in their performances and it is gaining exposure in their videos. The banjo developed in modern America in various forms, including the four-string banjo (plectrum and tenor banjo) used in Dixieland jazz, and the five-string banjo favoured in bluegrass and old-time music. In addition, there are banjo ukuleles, banjo basses and six-string banjos that can be played like a guitar.

One of the exterior characteristics of the 5 -string banjo is that, unlike other instruments, one string comes out in the middle of the fingerboard. This may be a surprising factor for guitarists. It also has a tone ring improved to provide loud sounds and sustin, and a resonator to amplify the sound.

The Florentine 5st-Banjo is the king of ornaments.

The original Florentine banjo was produced from 1927 to 1937 and is said to have been produced by Gibson at the time with the aim of making it "the finest and most luxurious banjo in the world”.

The Florentine Banjo was priced at $450 compared to the archtop L-5 at $270, which shows how much effort Gibson had put into this banjo.

This particular guitar was reissued in the 1970s, and as the original production notes say, the resonator, heel, fingerboard and head are all very high quality, well-designed and decorated.

Seeing one of these in Japan is an extremely rare experience in itself.

[condition]
The neck conditions are all inspected and adjusted by craftsmen.
The resonator/head tip, the seam of the wooden part, and the seams of the wood were detached due to deterioration of the adhesive, but it was repaired in a perfect state.
