About This Listing

Up for sale, a 2008 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins 125th Anniversary model in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case and hangtags. This finely crafted Gretsch blends vintage specification with the needs of the modern player, boasting Grover Rotomatic tuning machines and an Adjusto-Matic bridge. Features include a 16” fully hollow maple body with sound post bracing, a pair of Filter’Tron pickups, and a gloss Western Orange Stain finish.

The fully hollow maple construction has a rich, percussive voice when strummed acoustically that translates well through the Filter’Tron humbuckers. Plugged in, this 6120 has a broad sonic range, offering a punchy, sparkling bridge position sound that has plenty of muscle and breadth. The neck pickup is fat and smooth, with a distinctive thickness and bark that retains enough clarity for complex chording.  This Gretsch weighs 7lbs 2oz, professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The two-piece maple neck is bisected by a walnut stringer and has a medium depth soft V-shaped profile carve, measuring .850” deep at the 1st fret and .930” at the 9th. The bound ebony fretboard features neo-classical “thumbnail” inlay, and the stock slender fretwire is practically perfect, only exhibiting a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on the crowns of frets 1-3. This guitar plays cleanly up the 24.6” scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the bone nut measures 1 11/16” in width. The headstock sports a tightly figured, dimensional tiger maple veneer with horseshoe inlay, and the gold Grover Rotomatic tuning machines turn smoothly and hold accurate pitch. The back of the headstock has a small badge commemorating Gretsch’s 125th year of production (1883-2008).

There is a professionally-addressed V-shaped headstock repair, smooth to the touch and perfectly stable at full tension.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the pickups governed by a three-way pickup selector switch, three-way tone switch (bypassed in the middle), Master Volume control, and individual Volume controls for each pickup. The gold-plated hardware all shines like new, including the knurled “G” pointer knobs, pickup covers, ABR-1-style Adjusto-Matic bridge, and Bigsby B6G vibrato, which actuates smoothly and bounces quickly back to pitch. Plastics comprise the pickup surrounds and the Chet Atkins “signpost” pickguard. The serialized label is visible through the bass-side F hole.

The gloss Western Orange Stain finish is vibrant and well-saturated, framed by cream binding, and this guitar is exceptionally well-kept, with cosmetic wear limited to a handful of light scratches in the clear coat on the body as a whole, largely relegated to the back. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is flawless.

The original Gretsch-branded hardshell case is included, along with the original warranty card.
