NOS (new old stock) MOSES GRAPHITE 24-fret custom-application COMPOSITE guitar neck, 25-1/2" scale, SIDE DOTS only, TILTBACK 3+3 headstock, FENDER Stratocaster shaped heel, with size # 8-32 threaded insert installation kit and mounting screws.
No longer in production. Originally manufactured as a 24-fret custom-application neck with a Fender heel but will fit (extremely rare) Fender 24-fret guitars. Never drilled into, modified, or mounted. If you’ve ever wanted to build a 24-fret Fender with a graphite neck, here is your chance to purchase one of the key parts in brand-new condition.
This neck has a standard Stratocaster shaped heel with a curved bottom edge. The width of fretboard at the heel is 2-1/4”. The heel width tapers down to 2-3/16” at the flat mating surface.
Distance from the nut to the 12th fret is 12-3/4", so the scale length is 25-1/2". Distance from the 12th fret to the apex of the curved edge of the Stratocaster shaped heel is 6-3/8".
Nut width is 1-11/16". Neck thickness at nut is 13/16". Neck thickness at 12th fret is 14/16" = 7/8". Thickness of headstock is a BEEFY and unapologetic 9/16". Tuner hole diameter is 3/8". Message me if you need any other measurements.
NOTE: This MOSES GRAPHITE 24-fret custom-application neck will not intonate correctly on a standard 22-fret Stratocaster body unless the bridge is relocated. Centering of the saddle peaks must be 6-3/8" from the apex of the curved edge in the heel pocket for correct intonation.
As with many necks sold as individual parts, the heel was manufactured slightly larger so it can be fitted tightly into a Fender 24-fret body or custom guitar body. Width reduction and final heel edge shaping for fitment can be accomplished using an oscillating edge belt/spindle sander or similar piece of woodshop machinery.
The finish on this Moses Graphite 24-fret composite guitar neck is raw, as it came from the factory. It can be polished further using fine sandpaper or with buffing compounds, if desired.
The insert installation kit includes a size 13/64” Brad Point drill bit, T-wrench # 8-32 insert installation tool, (4) stainless steel thin-wall self-tapping # 8-32 threaded inserts, and (4) 1-1/2” long countersunk Phillips Head stainless steel (SS) # 8-32 screws. The installation kit is not included to encourage novices with power tools to install the inserts into the Mose Graphite composite neck. Installation of inserts should only be performed by a skilled luthier, guitar builder, or woodworking craftsman.
Size # 8-32 threaded inserts are also available in brass upon request. The drill bit size changes to a 15/64" though as brass is not a strong of a metal and requires slightly larger sizing for the insert to accomplish an equal strength to stainless steel. For durability and resistance to wear on threads, it's tough to beat stainless steel, but brass is an option if that is your metal of choice.
Using a small piece of Teflon tape or a splash of graphite powder on the threads of the stainless steel (SS) bolts prior to installation is advised to prevent the possibility of galling of the threads. It is unlikely to happen based on the light torque necessary to secure a graphite neck to guitar body, but this practice is still recommended as SS threads can gall on SS threads from a metallurgical standpoint. It's best to err on side of caution to ensure the SS threaded inserts last a lifetime.
A size # 10-32 threaded insert installation kit is available upon request as an even swap out for the # 8-32 kit, although the installation tool does not have a T-handle on it. It requires a hex bit screwdriver or hex head T-handle driver. Size # 10-32 threaded inserts are available in stainless steel, alloy steel, or brass.
For the musician without mad luthier skills, it is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED the neck and the installation kit be taken to a skilled luthier or professional guitar builder to have the neck correctly fitted into the body and the SS threaded inserts installed. This is unquestionably a job for a pro and should not be attempted by an amateur. The installer only has one shot to do all aspects of the installation correctly. If any mistakes are made, the neck will have to be sent back to the Moses Graphite shop for restoration to its original state, delaying the build and incurring additional expenses for the repairs.
