About This Listing

You are bidding on a ca. 1981 Gibson Grabber G-1 Bass. The body is stamped 1981, the pot date we can read is 1979, and the neck date places this around 1975-76, so our guess is it was made with existing parts at the factory. The original, movable Gibson-embossed pickup sounds great (just ask Gene Simmons), and slides easily to allow change of tone. Maple fretboard on maple neck is straight with low, easy action, and frets still have plenty of life in them. String-through body adds more sustain and resonance. Structurally sound and solid, cosmetically in Good to VG condition - but shows igns of player wear - this bass has been used, which is one reason why it sounds so good. Does not have bridge cover. Two small cracks on pick guard by two corner positions (see photos). One of the height adjustment screws on the G saddle is missing a nub for the flathead screwdriver (see photo), but is still functioning. Nice, non-original hard "coffin" case included.

Product Overview
One of several Gibson solidbody basses introduced in the '70s, the Grabber and its counterpart the Ripper featured a large Maple bodies similar to guitars like the L6-S.  While the regular Grabber model featured a single movable pickup, the G-3 (also known as the Grabber III) used three single coils.
