GREAT!!! sounding Altec A7 Voice of the Theater VOTT speakers for PA / band use or LARGE audiophile home audio system.
SUPER EFFICIENT!!! Even VERY low wattage produces A LOT of VOLUME!!!
Wonderful sounding mids and very tight solid bottom with PLENTY of bass but would need subwoofers to be able to get extreme lows. These speakers were originally designed for use in movie theaters and were some of the first speakers used for large concert sound.
These are older cabinets probably from the 1960's maybe, not sure how to date them but they are probably 1970's at the latest. Vintage early 1970's JBL K140 15" speakers in each that were reconed in the eighties, recone date marked on the speakers themselves but it has been a while since I have opened these up.
Horn boxes are home made by a previous owner but do the job and contain Altec 511b horns with Altec 800 series horn drivers.
Passive crossovers built into the horn boxes, not sure if these are Altec. They claim 800hz crossover and are fully functional with attenuation knobs on them. The passive crossovers sound quite good even up against an external active one but you can get even more power out of this system if you run two stereo amps and an active crossover.
I have used this system with a 25W per side tube amp driving the horns and a Crown D75 (only about 30W a side, yes that's thirty watts!!!) on the bottoms and it was more than loud enough to do a full band outdoors. I also have used it with a Crown DC300 on the bottoms and the system performed even better!
Local pickup ONLY. These are not crazy heavy at all considering the size of them but are large and bulky. Bottoms are 42" X 30" X 24" so you will need a fairly large vehicle like a pickup truck, packing blankets straps and whatnot.
These historic speakers were reissued in 2006 as the VOTT A7 Legacy and the list price for a pair was $12,000.00. Google "RETURN OF A LEGEND: ALTEC A7 SPEAKER-SYSTEM" to read more.
