For sale is this gorgeous 1950's radio/recording studio console. See all attached docs/pics for more detail. NOTE: Although this is listed as local pickup only (due to weight), I may be driving to the Chicago area soon and could possibly meet someone there or in WI, if it works out.
Here are the bullet points of what we know and what's been done:
• It came from a radio station in the Fargo-Moorhead area. The engineer we purchased it from got it directly from the radio station many years ago as his father was an engineer there. Although he bought it, we are technically only the 2nd owner since he bought it for the purpose of restoring it to sell it.
• It has been rebuilt with several modifications. The power supply was also rebuilt and restored. We're assuming a lot of the original tube components were either not restorable or missing. Some of the electrolytic capacitors and transistors are 1960's-1970's era.
• Specs are an amazing 30-30K, better than the original specs.
• All internal soldering and grounding has been meticulously carried out with umpteen man-hours.
• The outside of the console was completely stripped and painted at an auto-body shop with durable auto paint with a nice luster, period-color, finish.
• We have the original manual and a booklet of notes for the restoration work done to it.
• Here are all of the transformers in the console: **approx. $6,000 current value of transformers alone, if these were to be parted out:
o (24) UTC A-20 ($150-$300 current prices/ea), so about $225 avg/ea = $5,400
o (4) Gates T1 input transformers #478-0145-000 AI-10426
o (5) Micro Electronics TA-20600SP
o (4) Hammond MRI-3002 150/600 ohm primary ($30-$95/ea), so $62.50 avg/ea = $250
• Console comes with custom heavy-duty stand, custom Studio Slips cover, original manual and tech documents. The package also includes 1 spare meter and 2 spare boards. The Anvil case in the photos for the power supply is not included in the package. There are a couple of paint nicks on the back of the console. Other than that, it is pretty much mint!
