Hofner 500/1 Van Wouw Left Handed Bass 1961 - Sunburst

Imagine ... 1961, the Beatles and Sir Paul's now iconic Hofner 500/1 bass guitar. He had two or three of these over the years...to my knowledge still has/plays one or two of them! I won't get into the debate on "how many were produced 'left handed' ..." but suffice it to say... a mere handful. Survivors?...even less.

The History:

This gem was purchased almost two decades ago from one of the world's leading Hofner experts, Mr. Greg Feo and is well documented on the forum "Beat Gear Cavern" ...

Former Hofner distributor, Mr. Rob Olsen fully examined this bass guitar in January 2006 here in Los Angeles California. As a result, this was verified as 100% genuine and the measurements were taken in critical areas such as the volute so that future re-issues could be produced accurately ... as an original was in the early 1960's.

In addition, Mr. Andy Babiuk featured this very guitar in his highly acclaimed book, "Beatles Gear" on pages 76-77.

The Bass Guitar:

This is one exceptionally great sounding bass, and with the benefit of a highly skilled neck reset, plays effortlessly. Save and except some honest play wear, she's in fabulous condition tip to toe. In the interest of full disclosure, the neck joint has been cosmetically touched-up at the time of the reset. Original finish otherwise.

The original hard shell case is fully operational and in very good condition. Pots match, dated February 1961…see photos of each
