Hofner 500/1 Selmer Bass, Left Handed 1963 - Sunburst

Beatles time capsule! This is a fully documented original left handed 1963 500/1 Selmer bass guitar in spectacular condition.

The History:

Bought from famed Hofner expert and collector, Mr. Tony Capizzi in 2006, this rings all the bells from Hamburg to Liverpool and 'round the world ! This 500/1 has been showcased in several Beatles Show exhibits and was a key feature at the 2006 Toronto Beatles Celebration! The Fisher Price Museum displayed this prominently in 2007.

In addition, two prominent Hofner experts examined this bass thoroughly and both validated the authenticity with hands down approvals. Mr. Brian Johnson and Mr. Scott Freilich of Top Shelf Music Inc. The letter of authenticity from Scott Freilich has been well circulated and a copy will be included with the sale...see attached photograph.

The Bass Guitar:

The overall condition is exceptional. Some general play wear however quite lightly used over the years...this was a showcase piece that was/is very well taken care of. The finish is original with a few quite minor touch ups to protect the wood. The treble pickup has had a coil replaced some time ago and functions as it should as a result. The pickups are strong, neck angle is ideal and fingerboard performs beautifully with a recent leveling and fret dressing. We can't determine if the frets were replaced or simply dressed...exceptional work either way. The pickguard was missing for a period of time; a duplicate was produced to complete the package. Some binding repair was performed on the back of the bass and is now quite secure and un-noticeable. The original Selmer case is in great condition! Plays and sounds fantastic, this bass will be proud center of the most discerning musician and collector.
