This Supro Jet Airliner Lap Steel Console 8 Tuxedo 1950s is part of the private collection of Chris Shiflett.
"Another funky old crackly lap steel that I never made much progress on. I’ve replaced this with a full on pedal steel that I still don’t know how to play!!"
-Chris Shiflett
Up for sale is this vintage Supro Jet Airliner eight string lap steel guitar. This little guy is in excellent condition for its age and shows only minor wear. The finish and hardware look nearly new, showing only light wear and pitting. The original pickup screams and sounds amazing.
Although Supro was considered the budget brand of the National Dobro company, they have become sought after commodities among vintage collectors for their simple designs and super cool retro stylings. Supro made a number of different steel models in the 1960s but none of them were as nice the Jet Airliner which was only offered from 1964-1968.
Described in the original catalog as the "finest" of the Supro steel line, the Jet Airliner was offered in either a 6 string or an 8 string (this is the 8 string model) and the legs and a case were optional. This includes its original hardshell case and the very hard to find legs.
This particular piece is currently only strung up for 6 strings, but can absolutely be outfitted for 8. Some light rash on the backside as well as some missing paint on the back of the headstock. Average chrome pitting to the hardware and legs considering the age.
Lightly used condition direct from the personal studio and tour collection of Chris. Was no longer being used and is now available for you on Reverb.com.
