Dorado guitars were made in Japan and distributed by Gretsch in the 1960s-1970s. This one has had repairs to the finish. The finish also has a lot of clouding which will never go away as it is in the finish or below most of the finish. The finish itself is in great condition with only one scuff on the top south of the bridge that doesn't appear to have penetrated to the cedar beneath. All other dinks or scuffs to the top have been repaired with CA glue and polished smooth. If you are looking for a guitar that is cosmetically flawless, this is not the one. This one is about how it feels when being played and how it sounds which is full and rich tonally. The bindings are in good condition -- not cracked as bindings often do with age. The finish was repaired along the heel/body union at some point in the past. The bottom edge of the guitar shows a repair where the finish had suffered some side impact that caused multiple cracks to the finish only -- not even damaging the purfling or binding. The fretboard is in good condition and the frets were crowned and polished on 8/16/23. The new bone saddle cannot be shaved down any more, with action at the 12th fret 3.75 mm for the 6th string and 3.25 for the 1st string -- within classical parameters. If over another 50 years the action increases, the bridge can be modified to lower the action. This guitar has a lot of life left. Despite the multiple cosmetic issues and finish repairs, it plays extremely well and is remarkable for volume and projection. The top is braced well as shown in the photos which is helps explain how well the top has retained its shape. More photos are available by request.
