About This Listing

Up for sale, a circa 1990s GMP Roxie in exceptional condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original hardshell case. GMP was founded in 1990 by a group of luthiers who had previously worked at the original Charvel/Jackson factory in San Dimas, and the Roxie was one of their first designs, originally built for Ryan Roxie of Alice Cooper's band. This eye-catching iteration was produced during GMP’s original run, prior to their dissolution in 2005; it features a  design that splits the difference between a Les Paul and Gretsch Duo Jet, with a (non-chambered) mahogany body, maple top, mahogany neck, and bound rosewood fretboard, sporting a gloss Red Metalflake finish, a Bigsby B6 vibrato, and an upgraded pair of TV Jones Magna’Tron humbuckers.

At 11lbs 7oz, this guitar dishes out tons of natural sustain and punch, and the tonewood complement yields a warm, midrange-forward chop faithfully captured by the upgraded TV Jones Magna’Tron humbuckers. A souped-up iteration of the Filter'Tron, these boutique, USA-made TV Jones pickups deliver a combination of single coil spank and Filter’Tron-style twang, bright and chirpy with quick attack and exceptional pop and clarity. There's a hint of compression, and the staggered pole pieces result in great string-to-string balance and brightness. This GMP Roxie has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 10-46 strings, low action, and spot-on intonation.

The mahogany neck has a medium C-shaped profile carve with round shoulders in every register, measuring .825” deep at the 1st fret and .930” at the 12th. The bound rosewood fretboard has a 16” radius and sports matching Red Metalflake diamond inlay, and the jumbo fretwire is nigh-flawless. This guitar plays cleanly up the 25 1/2“ scale with a straight neck and a responsive, optimally-adjusted truss rod, and the nut measures 1 11/16” in width, upgraded to bone. The headstock has an abalone GMP inlay, and the original Sperzel locking tuning machines turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should.

All of the electronics function as intended, with the upgraded TV Jones pickups governed by a three-way selector switch and a Gretsch-style control configuration with a Master Volume control at the cutaway horn, independent Volume knobs, and a Master Tone control. The harness features an Aerovox tone cap, and the inside edge of the control cavity is engraved with the early serial. The Bigsby B6 vibrato actuates smoothly and bounces quickly back to pitch; the vibrato and Nashville-style bridge are both notably clean, with a light dusting of surface patina on the nickel-plated knurled knobs.

The gloss Red Metalflake finish on top is framed by cream binding, and there’s real depth to the large flake sparkle. Cosmetic wear is limited to a handful of minor dings and faint scratches on the back of the body. The smooth gloss on the neck profile is flawless.

The original hardshell case is included.
