For sale is my Black Jackson Professional Dinky Reverse that was made in Japan in the 90’s. (Made between 1992-1995.)
Has a real Schaller made Floyd Rose, and EMG Pickups.
I just finished disassembling the guitar, cleaning and oiling the fingerboard, cleaning up the frets, cleaning off and adjusting the Floyd Rose, replacing the trem arm collar and trem arm for a set screw version, and adjusting the neck before putting it all back together and setting it up for nice even low action playing with no buzzing or dead spots. Plays like a dream with ease, sounds great, super fast attack, long sustaining clear notes, and feels awesome!
The frets have plenty of life left in them for years of joyful use.
Floyd Rose stays rock solid in tune even with heavy use, easily handling aggressive flutters, dive bombs or squeals.
The EMG pickups sound great and have that iconic tone they are known for when applied in these Super Strat style guitars.
The fingerboard is a gorgeous dark cut of Rosewood that feels like glass under your fingers. They don’t use cuts of wood like this anymore on guitars at this price point, and it just feels amazing and looks beautiful!
This is a players guitar in many senses of the word. It plays like a dream and feels amazing. It must have been someone’s main guitar for a while because she has the scars to show for it. Having played with it, I can see why this would have been such a great “go to” guitar. It just begs to be played passionately, and really inspires you to push your limits of playing.
The cosmetic issues do not in any sense take away from the awesome playability of this instrument, but I want the buyer to know it does have scratches, dings, and dents throughout. Definitely a players instrument and not so much a museum piece.
With that in mind, there are no structural issues whatsoever. Truss rod functions perfectly, Floyd rose has plenty of life left in it and adjust easily, etc. The original Trem arm Collar was cracked, and that is why I replaced the whole assembly with a Set Screw Collar and arm. Works flawlessly now and stays nice and tight.
I also want to speak to its ability to play amazing cleans. This is not purely a metal machine. Even drop tuned and with EMG’s, I almost play an equal amount purely clean as I do heavier styles.
I have owned a number of Super Strat style guitars over the years, and my favorite was always the early ESP MII Customs which I used to collect for decades. Honestly, this guitar plays as good or even better than many of the ESP’s I owned that cost Thousands of dollars more!
My days of collecting ESP’s are over, and from now on I would only consider getting these Japanese Dinky Rev’s if I wanted a Super Strat type guitar. They just play so well at such a more reasonable price point, and they honesty feel more solid.
I also massively prefer this guitar to the Jackson Soloists I have ever borrowed during recording sessions, including multiple USA custom shop versions. This guitar just feels way more responsive and lively.
This is an amazing Japanese guitar with great attention to quality and detail, feels rock solid, yet worn in like a glove for maximum comfort when digging in, and punches WAY above its price point in the current market.
If you are looking for an awesome playing, feeling, and sounding guitar that outplays the hyped overpriced guitars costing thousands more, you found a winner!
Some of the more detail oriented people might have noticed, it has a heavier set of strings on it than you might expect on a shredder. That is because I currently have it tuned like a baritone. Currently it is in G I believe as I was seeing if this could replace my baritone for a side project I was working with, which it did with ease! Because I know this tuning might not be everyone’s cup of tea, of course I am happy to swap the strings to a more standard gauge set and re-set it up in Standard tuning. Just let me know! Sounds like a monster right now though if you like heavy drop tuning! With that in mind, I had it set up in E standard prior and it sounded absolutely incredible, so this guitar can easily cover quite a range!
I know this Jackson Dinky Rev will bring the next owner a considerable amount of Joy and inspiration, just as it always did for me whenever I played it.
