TASCAM model 38 1/2"REEL to REEL 8 TRACK TAPE Recorder MINT w/Plastic in BOX!
This Tascam 38 reel to reel is in amazing rare condition. Just in from another estate of music merchandise from a client's guitarist Father. This Tascam was purchased from a close friend of his 25 years ago and it was mint in the box then, like it is right now. So 25 years later my technician of 37 years opened it up and here is what he found.
Cosmetically quite flawless.
TASCAM 38:
This machine is in excellent condition, with very few operating hours on it. When it came in, the rubber drive belt and pinch roller were deteriorated with age. We replaced those with new parts, and ran a record/play test - with all channels recorded at 0db they all play back at exactly 0db, very consistently. There was a serious amount of lateral run-out (reel wobble) on the take-up reel table, so we replaced the reel table hub assembly. There is still a slight run-out on the supply reel, but not enough to cause reel scrape, or any other functional problem. The heads are in excellent near-new condition, due to the small amount of operating time on them.
The unit comes shipped in a thick box surrounding the original Tascam box, along with the original plastic, packing foam, owners manual, schematic, and an extra pictured recording snake-cable system.
