Rare Color! Early 50s Harmony Stratotone H-44 Sunburst w/ Brazilian Rosewood FB, Case
Harmony Collectors! We have something rare and unusual to show you today. Marked 9 of 60 in the electronics cavity, This H-44 Stratotone is finished in an unusual color: Tobacco Sunburst! Additionally, the guitar features the more rounded body contours of the earliest 1952/1953 models, and it also lacks a headstock logo. From these details, we surmise it could have been an early prototype or dealer sample instrument. The rarity of the color, the early contours, and lack of a logo puts this H-44 into a class of it’s own.
Preferred guitar of Ritchie Valens of The Four Seasons, this instrument certainly sounds the part. The original Hershey Bar pickup is uniquely vibey, and captures every articulation. The sound ranges from bright and snappy, to warm and rich. As you roll the tone knob down, the original paper-in-oil capacitor tastefully colors the sound. Topping it off, compact body and Brazilian Rosewood fretboard help this distinctly simple instrument achieve a level of playability that is tough to match.
This H-44 is in very good condition and has a lifetime of wear to tell it’s story. The heavy pick marks indicate that it was well loved. It has both a Peace Symbol and an Anarchy A carved into the back of the body. We yearn to hear the tales it could tell, if it could speak. Aside from the cosmetic wear, this instrument is fully solid. It’s robust construction has helped it avoid any cracks or major issues over the years.
This guitar has been professionally setup, and is ready for a whole new lifetime of use. The frets have been polished smooth, the board conditioned, and the all-original electronics have been cleaned. Make this rare and unique piece yours today!
