The Ibanez Roadstar came out of the 1980's as one of Ibanez's most iconic designs, blending the super-Strat aesthetic with a modern sense of design and a penchant for extravagant colors and shred forward playability. Steve Lukather, guitarist for Toto, worked with Ibanez in 1983 to design a signature guitar and ended up with this model.
These guitars have a carved birdseye maple cap on basswood bodies, bolted to a maple neck that has a gorgeous ebony fingerboard inlaid with snowflakes. Components include a pair of covered humbucking pickups with a custom SL Special at the bridge and a Super 58 at the neck with Duo Sound coil-split functionality mounted in ivory pickup rings and Smooth Tuner II tuning machines.
This is the second version of this model: Several changes were introduced in mid 1984, including the newly developed Pro Rock'r double locking tremolo with a Top Lok string lock behind the nut, a painted headstock and neck, 22 frets, and knurled metal Tek Grip knobs. This second version also has a facsimile of Lukather's signature engraved into the neck joint plate.
This guitar was discontinued after 1985. It is the only signature guitar Ibanez produced for Lukather. This guitar is in great condition, with only minor pitting on the hardware. Serial #L842245 comes the original hardshell case.
