About This Listing

Micro frets are a short lived American design made between 1967 and 1974. The founder Ralph Jones died suddenly in 1972, and the factory continued only a couple more years using up the inventory of parts. This guitar is a early 'style one' Micro Frets 'Golden Melody' guitar, which is a real looker. There are some minor marks, but overall it is in very good + + playable condition, with minimal fret or other wear.

At number 1430 it is one of the first made, and there is only one other guitar with a lower number currently on the Micro frets registry. It has a hollow two piece body and distinctive Maple neck. The pick ups are DeArmond, which were briefly used before Micro frets started making their own. There is one volume, and two tone, tuning wheels under the bi-level pick guard. It also has the Ralph Jones designed first wireless transmitter for guitar, which was powered by a small 9v battery housed under a small cover (not tested) This feature is superfluose to normal use and does not effect playability in any way. The guitar has the signature 'Micro-nut' which allows precision tuning with the adjustable bridge. It also has the distinctive large 'Aluminium M' which was fitted to models without a 'Calibrato' It comes with the original case, which is also in good condition.

Micro frets have increasingly a cult status, and due to the low numbers made, are very collectable, being in the late 60's early 70's an innovative alternative to the offerings of Fender and Gibson. In America Micro frets were played by Carl Perkins and Mark Farmer of Grand Funk Railroad, while in the UK they were played by Mickey Jupp, and the Chameleons, among others. For more information see the 'Micro-Frets Saga' in Vintage Guitar Magazine March 2017
