Sadly parting with this '66 Super Reverb I bought last year, so I can pay off some credit cards. These are my favorite Fender amps, the 6L6 & 4x10 combo gives such amazing, massive clean tones that I just can't get out of anything else. I'm not touring at the moment and it's just too much amp for my needs right now, so it's on the chopping block. Please make sure you read the entire listing as there's much to talk about here.

I had it serviced by Pat Kauffman at Main Drag Music here in Brooklyn last January, where he did a good bit of work to get it into road ready functional spec. The circuit was almost entirely original except for a replaced (and incorrect value) screen grid resistor, and had been sitting untouched for 15 years so it needed lots of love. Pat did:

-a cap job to refresh electrolytic caps and remove death cap. The tone and coupling caps are all original

-full cleaning and resolder on some worn out joints

-new matched JJ power tubes as the originals were shot, along with a single replacement JJ 12ax7 in V3

-replacement Accutronics reverb tank

-replaced and corrected incorrect value screen grid resistor

-AC power cord conversion to 3 prong

The baffle is potentially a replacement, along with a pretty discolored silver panel era grille cloth. This could easily be corrected with a new baffle and black panel style grille cloth from Mojotone, if you so desired the full black panel era aesthetics. Last I checked, some of the pots have metal shafts instead of nylon shafts, so I'm not positive they are all original, and some of the knobs appear to be replacements. The faceplate is slightly bent upward, at the bottom right hand corner.

The rest of the tubes are original Fender/RCA 60s tubes. The speakers are CTS speakers that date to '68, in good working order. The Fender branded output transformer dates to 1970, meaning it is a replacement, but it is period correct and identical spec to what came in it originally. From what I have gathered, the OT specs were not changed until 1977 when the UL (ultralinear) circuits were introduced. The previous owner bought it in 1971 along with a 71 telecaster to gig in a country band with some friends (and claims he had never replaced anything), so it wouldn't be farfetched to think that over the course of 5 years it ended up with some replacement parts before he acquired it.

If I had to wager a guess, this amp was likely sent from a dealer back to Fender for a warranty replacement in the early 70s, perhaps to address issues with the original speakers that subsequently caused the original output transformer to blow. Maybe it was a showroom model that was worn out and hadn't yet sold, maybe it was for a customer warranty job, who knows. The CTS speakers in it are a matched set and period correct for a silver panel Fender, and seeing this particular matched replacement set is a bit unusual - a single blown speaker is easy enough to replace and there presumably would be no reason to not source an original speaker if it was an option or reasonable to do. My guess is that Fender did a warranty refurb of the amp with new parts for the dealer or the customer in 1970, replacing the entire speaker set with a matching set they had in stock, replacing the output transformer with a current production model, replacing some potentiometers and knobs, and replacing the tattered original grille cloth with the currently in production silver and blue grille cloth.

The amp sounds amazing, I've attached a demo with my custom '65 reissue Epiphone Casino to the listing, I have one with my '62 Starfire as well that I can share if needed.

This is absolutely a player grade amp with plenty of wear and non original parts, but the circuit is correct, it's got some old glass, and it is ready to hit the road or live a cushy life in your studio!

No footswitch included, tremolo is currently turned off. I do not own a footswitch nor have any need to purchase one as I use a strymon flint for tremolo when I need it.

No shipping, local pick up only. Please be aware that this is available locally and for that reason, I may end the listing at any time. Sold as-is.

Let me know if you have any questions.
