Beautiful guitar from Strunal! Made in Luby in the forests of the Czech Republic, an instrument making city with over 400 years of stringed instrument making history!
Strunal is definitely an interesting brand, they make a lot of scaled down guitars in 3/4 to 1/2 size worlds kind of the way that violins regularly are. Most of the ones I’ve seen are the really shrunken down sizes, but this one is just slightly undersized at 7/8 size. Those little ones are great for kids who are just starting, but this is a big, professional, adult instrument with great tone and a good amount of playability. These are kind of a household name in Europe, but they’re kind of hard to find here in the USA. They’re super great guitars that I always thought could have a bigger presence here.
The city of Luby on the border of Markneukirchen in Germany has about as cool of a story when it comes to making instruments as it gets. Luby was called the Cremona of the North, and they made violins that rivaled Stradivarius of Cremona going all the way back. They're still in the instrument making game, and their guitars come from their long lineage of violin making. This one is undeniably beautiful, the woods and materials have the distinct look of instruments from those European forests that both the Czech and German instruments have. This one plays a little stiff, it's an older one from the 80's, but it still feels and plays great overall. Great guitar with a lot of history!
