A vintage Gretsch 6161 amp features 2 bridgeable channels including Tremolo.
This amp is all handwired point-to-point made by the legendary Valco Co. year 1964 in Chicago, IL.
I added a quick unrehearsed Youtube video to demonstrate the overall tone of this amp with a Les Paul. No effects were used with exception of a Sole Mate reverb pedal; just the guitar volume & pickup selector switch. Please excuse any playing mistakes; for tone demo only.
The 6161 with C10R Jensen speakers & 6973 RCA Power tubes emanate that slightly overdriven & very complex early Page / Zeppelin, classic "Valco" tone!
When both channels are bridged together with a short jumper cable, the overdrive, volume, and harmonics really come alive even more.
I owned the famed Supro Valco 1624t Model 24, and sold it in favor of this Gretch. This particular 6161 has the same Valco 6973 tube tone with more overdrive/ gain available.
The grill cloth, cabinet, and Jensen speakers are all original & in excellent condition for a 50 plus year old amp.
NOTE:This year 1964 model 6161 has more overdrive/ gain
than the earlier versions with the oval shaped Rola speakers & the original Jensens sound amazing.
The amp is in excellent condition, and the the chrome plated steel chassis has a mirror finish with just 1 small, 1/4" diameter blemish where the chrome has started to oxidize & pit as shown in the photos near the white pilot lamp.
The entire electrical circuit including the original grey power cord appears completely all original, and the electrolytics & Caps all tested proper a year prior. The grill cloth, cabinet, and Jensen speakers are all original & are excellent; see photos.
I have too many amps & I am selling some of my long time favorites.
I have done nothing to the amp since I have owned it & everything functions normally with no issues whatsoever .
