This is an original 1965 Fender Mustang guitar, built in Fullerton, CA. It is nearly all original except for:

  • This guitar does not have the original finish.
  • The bridge pick-up has been replaced with a new "Antiquity II Mustang Bridge" from Seymour Duncan.
  • There may be a few non original screws on the pickguard and chrome plate but I can't really tell which ones.
  • I never owned the bridge cover or original whammy bar

What can I say about this guitar? I have been the proud owner for over 35 years (other than a short trade that I soon traded back). I bought it in 1988 after having my much more expensive (brand new) 1987 Sunburst Fender Stratocaster stolen from my Phoenix apartment.

When I got the guitar it had already been stripped of it's original finish and that had been replaced with a poorly done lacquer/stain job. After a few years I personally stripped that off and replaced it with a clear Poly-Satin coat. I carefully and meticulously sanded it with very fine sandpaper until it was very smooth. It looks more like it's just raw unfinished wood but it does actually have the poly coat on it.

There is a date stamp on the end of the neck reading "8OCT65B" that is not visible unless the neck is off. This indicates that the neck is the slightly wider and more preferable “B” neck. There is also the slightest hint of the original "Daphne" blue paint (looks more like turquoise at this point) in the neck well also.

Also this guitar has been played so much over the last 61 and a half years that there is just a barely noticeable indentation in the back of the neck where the players left hand first and second knuckles (palm side) press into the neck when playing “Cowboy Chords”. I tried to show it in one of the pictures but it may be a feature (not a flaw) that is only visible in person!

Full disclosure the bridge pick-up is NOT original, but is a Seymour Duncan Antiquity II Mustang Bridge Pickup. It sounds very authentic. Many years ago after owning the guitar for a few years I decided to replace the bridge pickup with a Hot Rails pickup (to my great shame and regret), but that modification has been reversed (including the black pickguard that I bought to mount the Hot Rails in because I didn't want to cut the original pick-guard).

The original plastic pick-up covers are both back in place and it has been carefully rewired back to factory specifications.

Also included is the very classic looking original guitar case with it's STILL INTACT internal neck strap.

Other Extras I will be throwing in:

The black pickguard (after market Chandler pick-guard) and chromed volume/tone/jack plate.

An aftermarket Whammy bar that I got from All-Parts.

This guitar will be fully and carefully wrapped before being placed into the case, which will also be carefully wrapped and padded before being placed into a special Guitar Shipping Box, and thoroughly taped. I had a former career in shipping and handling and know how to properly pack items for UPS and USPS.

Thanks for looking!
